Fostering Community is the second in a two-part series, but you are not required to have come to Preparing to Foster.
Fostering is hard, and it can be hard for family members and friends to understand. This causes foster parents to often experience isolation and face the unique challenges of fostering alone. This training is designed to equip a foster parent’s community to walk with and support foster parents in this journey.
The training will:
1. Increase the community’s knowledge and understanding of fostering and the foster care process
2. Provide tangible and specific ways to support foster parents
3. Give time for the team as a whole to discuss needs and create a support plan.
This training is for current or prospective foster parents and a minimum of three of their friends and family members. Each foster parent/couple is required to bring at least three members of their community. If you can’t meet this requirement, please contact DC127 staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
DC127 is a faith-based Christian organization, and this training reflects that involves ways to spiritually support a foster family. However, anyone is welcome to attend the training, and the training is still accessible to family and friends who may not share a foster family’s faith.
